What is Your Dream Vacation? Where Would You Go For a Special Retreat?

A few years ago I went to the local casino regularly- but then they started building a hotel on the site and suddenly the machines didn't pay anymore...hmmm...

Yes, same there, then they added tables and the machines tightened up again!

Ahhh yes the nefarious tables. I stay away from those like the plague they ALWAYS take the money! I don't know how people make all that money playing blackjack. I have heard the best odds are in craps but it is just so confusing!

It's of an old stucco mansion on the cliffs, probably above the Med, there are several series of steep stairs leading to platforms and then down to the water, there is a beautiful old tree, looks something like an Elm, overhanging the stairway in the forefront. The sailboats are about the size of your little fingernail, but so detailed.

I was in a discount/close out type store one day after work for something mundane like a bath mat, and came around a corner, and there it was! Had to have it, before I could even hang it, everyone wanted it, but it had to be mine. Had they had more, I would have bought one for everyone!

In one of the many books I have read, and I think it may be the Tibetan Book of the Dead, they state that we can create the place we go when we leave this earth. I'm not trying to interfere with anyone else's beliefs, but I told my now departed baby brother that if this was the case I'd meet him in this picture, when I 'checked out, to hold on to this thought and image when it was his time. I hope he is there, I miss him every day!

SK that sounds absolutely beautiful. I love any kind of scene with beautiful bits of nature, especially water,. Even better that you found it at a discount store, those are the best finds! I absolutely love the thought that you plan to meet your brother in that picture. I'm sure you miss him terrible and those stairs with the tree sound like a beautiful place to reconnect. I hope he is there too and that you two get to enjoy it together someday.

Oh where do I start? Lol! My husband and I talk about this all the time. He and I both would love to go back to our family roots. For him that would be in Norway. For me that would be in Germany and Belgium. I’ve already been to Britain. We would both love to go to Australia or New Zealand and an Alaskan cruise. We own a 5th wheel and we don’t get out in it as much as we would like. Sometimes we say we should sell everything and move into the 5th wheel and just travel around - especially during the cold Canadian winter months. Or buy an RV lot by a beach and park the 5th wheel and build a deck onto it and then spend all our weekends going to the beach. Oh just too many places to do and see lol.

Dkel9307 - I live in Calgary and Banff is only an hour away. I will agree looking at mountains daily is a blessing. Even I haven’t explored much of Banff and it’s my neighbor! Lol.

Hi Kalena62,

Great ideas! I would love to go to my family roots as well- would be Japan, Germany and England. The latter is a place I have always wanted to visit for the history and castles. I have been to Japan twice, now just have to get to Europe! I have always wanted to road trip like you mention as well. Perhaps you guys could do little day trips. So many places to see, so little time (and energy lol). Hope you are well!

Hi Kalena62,

Where you live sounds beautiful! I live on an island in WA State so we are surrounded by water and mountains on all sides. It is absolutely the best of all worlds. Seattle is about 2 hours away so if I want to experience 'city' life it is not unattainable.

Ah ha ha ha ha that’s funny! I’m sure it’s quite true. He’s lucky they weren’t on the golf course with them! Lol

Hey slmo,

Funny story - I’ve been to WA State once when I was about 7-8 years old but what stands out in my mind is it was evening and we were either coming in or out of a building and there was this black thing on the pavement. When we got up to it my dad picked it up and it was a bat! I was very impressionable back then and forever more I think bats are just the most awesome creatures lol.

Great story Kalena62! One of the houses I used to live in would get bats that hid in the roof shingles. More than once the little buggers would fly into my house through the open balcony door. It is nerve wracking to huddle under a blanket with bats flying overhead lol! They are amazing creatures though- we would always catch them in plastic containers and release them back out the window.

As I recall you are Dr. Doolittle so maybe you can be our Robin? lol

Dr Doolittle is an animal lover, so I figured if we were to give you a doctorate it could be that you represent the love you have for animals. Or maybe we could just call you the 'Captain" since you so astutely know how to direct all of us in the right way to make us feel better.

Hah! lol dkel. I guess that would make me Ms. do-little, I have the same issue!

Absolutely- and since birds of a feather flock together we are a strange and diverse family!

What a beautiful bird David! Better for us to be Lymebirds than peacocks!
