Since Lyme Disease treatment involves taking antibiotics, sometimes for very long periods of time, I wanted to post information about protecting your body, particularly your intestinal function.
The following link is from an alternative perspective. An alternative physician can be an important addition to your LLMD since they treat the "whole" person. When taking antibiotics, they not only destroy the Lyme but can cause inbalances in your intestinal flora, or good organisms that we need.
I wish I would have been more aware of this when I was put on antibiotic therapy for six months in 2009. I developed intestinal problems from it and now am struggling to regain the balance. It's a big problem that you defiinetly want to avoid. It doens't have to happen if you take necessary precautions.
Hopefully, your LLMD will include probiotics and proper diet instructions for you during your treatment.
Please read this article and discuss this with your LLMD.
I used to take Theralac but my doctor prefers the Ther-Biotic Complete by Klaire Labs. I also take Biatogen which is a prebiotic. It helps feed the good organisms so they can thrive and establish in your gut.
I’m considering trying something else in addition to the Theralac. Bothers me I still have yeast issues even though I’m taking the Theralac religiously.
Jen, my doctor told me that it’s ok to take more probiotics, said you can alternate them if you like every other day. The more “good” organisms you have the better to help keep the gut flora healthy.
Theralac is a good one, but I was still getting yeast symptoms while on it. Then I started seeing my present doctor. He explained the biofilm problem, where the yeast get armour plating, so to speak, building up a network structure around them and then nothing can penetrate through to kill the yeast. So, that’s when he put me on the Interfase digestive enzymes, by Klaire Labs. I take them between meals on empty stomach. He says the digestive enzymes work on breaking up the biofilm, stressing that empty stomach when taking them so they work on biofilm and not food. Then the antifungal can get to the yeast to kill it off. You see, I failed my first round of Yeast treatment before with other doctor, when I was on Diflucan.
This doctor put me on Nystatin is trying to break through the biofilm. I’m herxing bad so maybe it is working. He said when yeast/candida problem has been long standing, like mine, it is so much tougher to get rid of it.
Jen, ask your doctor about the digestive enzymes that I’m on (Interfase). Because biofilm gets around ALL organisms, not just candida, gets around lyme too.
